Re$earch Money has published a piece detailing the increasing pressure on the government to support the Naylor Report . Even though many in the Canadian science community have been impatient to see the government make a conclusive statement about the Naylor report and whether they will increase funding in the next budget cycle, one author of the Globe Young Academy report Jeremy Kerr says they are taking a normal amount of time and care, telling Re$earch Money:
“The government is doing exactly what it should be doing. They’re taking time to understand the report and develop a thoughtful response that is evidence-based,” says Kerr. “The research community is impatient so there’s an expectation of decisive action after a period of reflection. We don’t specify time frames for our recommendations. I’d be impressed if they responded in the (fall) economic and fiscal update.”
Science & Policy Exchange is currently running an open letter campaign #Students4theReport to represent the student and trainee scientist’s voice on the report and on Canadian science funding. We want to add our voice to those asking the government to keep this report in mind and to implement the recommendations in full. If you want to show your support for our campaign you can find all the information right here on our website.
