The Liberal government has announced the date of October 17, 2018 for full cannabis legalization in Canada. Federal Bill C-45 went back and forth with the senate over the last few weeks and was officially voted in on Tuesday. Provincial governments will have the ability to draft their own specific laws governing the sale of cannabis in their provinces. Cannabis for medical purposes has already been approved in Canada since 2001.
If you’re interested in learning more about cannabis consumption and the science policy issues surrounding legalization, we are hosting a series of public forums on the topic this summer. Check out the live stream of our public forum on Medical Cannabis from earlier this week here. And don’t forget to register for our next forum on July 9th which will focus on non-medical cannabis use and features a great line-up of speakers.
